Clicks to Capital: World’s Biggest TikToker Strikes $900m Deal

Khaby Lame, the world’s most-followed TikTok creator, has sold his company in a deal valued at about $900 million, according to a report by Business Insider, highlighting the growing commercial power of social media influencers.

Lame, who was born in Senegal and rose to global fame through silent, comedic videos that parody complicated “life hacks,” has built a massive international audience running into hundreds of millions of followers. His content’s universal appeal, relying on visual humour rather than language, has made his personal brand especially attractive to investors.

The deal places Lame among a small but expanding group of creators whose online popularity has translated into nine-figure business valuations, reflecting a shift in how digital influence is monetised.

According to data from Statista, the global influencer marketing industry was valued at over $20 billion in 2024, more than tripling in size since 2019. Analysts say creators with global reach now function like media companies rather than individual entertainers.

“Attention has become a measurable economic asset,” said Emily Hund, assistant professor of media studies at Loyola University New Orleans and author of The Influencer Industry. “Platforms like TikTok allow creators to convert cultural relevance directly into corporate value.”

Research by the Pew Research Center shows that a majority of young adults regularly get entertainment and product recommendations from social media creators, reinforcing the influence creators wield over consumer behaviour.

The transaction underscores how social media is reshaping modern entrepreneurship, with user engagement, likes, shares, and views, now central to building businesses capable of attracting large-scale investment.
