Education Ministry Assures Inclusion of All Ghanaian Languages in AI Learning Initiative.

The Ministry of Education has assured the public that all Ghanaian languages will be included in its proposed collaboration with Google on an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered learning platform.

In a statement issued on Sunday, January 25, and signed by Press Secretary Hashmin Mohammed, the Ministry clarified that the four Ghanaian languages announced by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu are part of a pilot phase only. According to the Ministry, the pilot is intended to test the tool’s effectiveness, adaptability, and overall impact on learning outcomes before a full nationwide rollout.

The clarification follows concerns raised by members of the Ga and Adangbe communities, who questioned the exclusion of their languages from the initial announcement. The Ministry stressed that the pilot phase does not amount to marginalisation or permanent exclusion of any language group.

“The pilot phase is strictly for testing purposes and will not determine the final scope of the programme,” the statement said.

The Ministry explained that once the pilot phase is successfully evaluated, the AI learning tool will be expanded to cover all twelve officially approved Ghanaian languages.

This expanded phase will explicitly include Ga and Adangbe, along with other local languages across the country.

Reaffirming its position, the Ministry said it remains committed to linguistic inclusivity and equitable access to education. It also expressed readiness to engage traditional authorities, education stakeholders, and communities nationwide to ensure the initiative reflects Ghana’s cultural and linguistic diversity.

The Ministry added that the deployment of technology-driven learning tools will be done in a way that respects Ghana’s rich linguistic heritage while improving educational outcomes for students across the country.
