Support from corporate Ghana continues to build as the country intensifies preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
GCB Bank has contributed GH¢5 million to Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, in a move aimed at strengthening the team’s readiness for the global tournament.
The cheque was formally presented by the bank’s Board Chairman, Joshua Alarbi, to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, at an official ceremony.
This latest contribution adds momentum to a growing list of financial commitments from corporate institutions and private sector players rallying behind Ghana’s World Cup campaign. The 2026 tournament will be hosted across United States, Canada, and Mexico.
In recent developments, Engineers & Planners, owned by businessman Ibrahim Mahama, pledged GH¢2 million, which has already been deposited into the designated account. Similarly, Stanbic Bank Ghana has committed GH¢3 million, while Newmont Ghana has added a $500,000 contribution.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to accountability in handling these funds. According to the Ministry of Finance, all donations are being directed into the official 2026 World Cup fundraising account held at the Bank of Ghana.
Under the guidance of head coach Carlos Queiroz, the Black Stars are gearing up for what could mark Ghana’s fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup.
