Ghanaian Tomato Traders Attacked by Terrorists - Government Confirms

The government of Ghana has officially confirmed that a truck carrying Ghanaian tomato traders was caught in a terrorist attack in northern Burkina Faso.

The attack occurred on Saturday, February 14, 2026, in the town of Titao, an area experiencing increasing extremist violence. Ghana’s Ministry of the Interior and National Security described the development as “disturbing information” after receiving reports from Burkina Faso authorities.

The traders were reported to be travelling in a truck transporting tomatoes when they were caught up in the attack.

Authorities say investigations and rescue verification efforts are underway as Ghana’s Embassy in Burkina Faso is working with local officials to visit the attack site and identify any Ghanaian victims or survivors.

At the moment, official casualty numbers or survivor counts have not yet been publicly confirmed, but Government sources say more updates will be provided once identities and casualty details are confirmed.

Titao and surrounding areas in northern Burkina Faso have seen repeated attacks from extremist groups linked to al-Qaeda, contributing to a wider Sahel security crisis. Separate reports indicate coordinated attacks on military installations in the same region around the time of the incident, highlighting escalating insecurity in northern Burkina Faso.

Ghanaian traders, especially tomato buyers, frequently travel to Burkina Faso for supply due to cross-border food trade links. The attack raises renewed concerns about trader safety and regional food supply chains, since Ghana relies partly on imports from Burkina Faso during certain seasons.
