Government Approves Payment Plan for GES Salary Arrears (2024–2025)

The Government has approved a payment plan to settle outstanding salary arrears owed to eligible staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The arrears cover a 16-month period, from August 2024 to November 2025.

In a press statement issued on Monday, April 20, the GES confirmed that the Ministry of Finance (MoF) has granted approval for the release of funds.

The funds will be disbursed through the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD), which is responsible for processing and paying the arrears.

According to the directive, the arrears will be paid in five instalments beginning May 2026.

Breakdown of Payments:

  • May 2026: 4 months’ arrears

  • June 2026: 4 months’ arrears

  • July 2026: 4 months’ arrears

  • August 2026: 4 months’ arrears

A fifth instalment will complete the payment cycle, although specific details about this final tranche were not disclosed.

Management of the GES has instructed all Regional Directors to communicate the update to Heads of Schools without delay.

This directive aims to ensure transparency and timely information sharing with teachers and all affected personnel across the country.

“You are kindly requested to promptly convey this information to all Heads of Schools, to ensure that all eligible staff are duly informed accordingly,” the statement said.
