The Minister for the Interior, acting on the advice of the National Security Council, has imposed a renewed curfew on Bawku Municipality and its environs in the Upper East Region.

The directive, issued through an Executive Instrument, takes effect from Tuesday, January 27, 2026, and will run daily from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

In a statement issued on January 27, 2026, the government called on chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents of the affected areas to exercise restraint amid ongoing security challenges.

The statement urged community members to adopt non-violent means in addressing grievances and to channel their efforts toward maintaining peace and stability in the municipality.

Alongside the curfew, authorities announced a total ban on:

Carrying arms or ammunition.

Possession of offensive weapons.

Riding of motorbikes within Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas.

Security agencies have been directed to strictly enforce the measures. Any individual found in possession of arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
