John Abdulai Jinapor Engages Cenpower on Power Sector Sustainability

John Abdulai Jinapor, Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, has held high-level discussions with executives of Cenpower Generation Company Limited as part of ongoing stakeholder consultations within the country’s power sector.

The meeting, described by the Minister as “fruitful and constructive,” focused on recent developments in electricity generation and the broader sustainability of Ghana’s energy landscape.

Strengthening Public–Private Collaboration

Central to the discussions was the role of independent power producers (IPPs) in supporting national energy objectives under the administration of John Dramani Mahama. Dr. Jinapor emphasised that effective collaboration between government and private operators remains critical to building a resilient and reliable power system.

According to a statement shared by the Minister on February 19, the government’s vision prioritises an enduring and dependable electricity supply, while upholding fiscal discipline and safeguarding the long-term sustainability of the sector.

He noted that maintaining financial stability within the energy value chain is as important as expanding generation capacity, particularly in a context where the sector continues to face structural and liquidity challenges.

Aligning IPPs with National Goals

Dr. Jinapor underscored the strategic role of Cenpower in supplementing Ghana’s national grid, stressing that continuous dialogue with key industry players allows for better coordination and policy alignment.

He indicated that such engagements are essential in ensuring that operational strategies of IPPs are aligned with national energy goals, while also encouraging innovation and efficiency across the sector.

The Minister concluded by reaffirming his commitment to sustained stakeholder engagement, signalling a consultative approach to policy implementation and long-term sector reform.

As Ghana navigates the twin priorities of energy security and fiscal prudence, the government’s engagement with independent power producers is expected to remain central to shaping a stable and sustainable power future.
