Two Killed, Thousands Displaced After Earthquake Strikes Southwest China

A 5.2 magnitude earthquake hit China’s Guangxi region early Monday, leaving two people dead and forcing thousands to flee their homes in the city of Liuzhou.
More than 7,000 residents were evacuated as emergency teams moved in to assess the damage and search for survivors. Authorities confirmed that one person is still missing, while four others were hospitalised with minor injuries.
Initial reports indicate that at least 13 buildings collapsed following the quake, which struck in the early hours of the day, catching many residents off guard.
Transport services may face disruptions, with railway authorities carrying out safety checks on rail infrastructure to ensure safe operations. However, essential services including electricity, water, gas supply, and communication networks are reported to be functioning normally.
Rescue efforts remain ongoing as officials continue to monitor the situation and assess structural risks in affected areas.
