Gov’t Confirms Eight Dead in Burkina Faso Attack; Survivors Evacuated to Accra

Update from the government has confirmed that eight Ghanaian tomato traders were killed in a terrorist attack in Titao, northern Burkina Faso, on 14 February 2026.

The traders were travelling on a commercial trip when they were caught in an attack in the conflict-prone area. The incident is part of ongoing extremist violence affecting parts of northern Burkina Faso.

Survivors and Government Response

Three injured survivors have since been evacuated to Ghana by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and are receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

The president, John Dramani Mahama, visited the survivors and assured them of full government support, including medical care and counselling.

The Ministry of the Interior earlier described the development as disturbing and confirmed that Ghanaian authorities are working closely with Burkinabè officials to verify details and support affected families.

The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry has also condemned the attack and indicated that engagement is ongoing to strengthen protections for Ghanaian traders operating across the border.

Security and Trade Concerns

The attack has renewed concerns about the safety of Ghanaian traders who travel to Burkina Faso for tomato supplies, especially during periods when Ghana relies on cross-border imports.

Security analysts are urging stronger travel advisories and improved intelligence communication for traders operating in high-risk areas.

Interventions

Government officials say support arrangements for bereaved families are being coordinated, while security advisories for cross-border traders are under review.

This remains a developing story, and further updates are expected as investigations continue and additional official details are released.
